SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTMENTS
Being a small business trying to do the right thing in a world that's pushes plastic, fast fashion and cheap prices isn't always easy, but it is important. And so is transparency - because we're not perfect.
But we do believe a few simple things: that umbrellas should be made to last, people should be paid fairly, and all businesses, big and small, should do their bit. So, in the interest of transparency, here's what we think we're getting right so far:
We’re officially part of 1% for the Planet, meaning we donate 1% of our total turnover to trusted environmental organisations that are fighting landfill waste and ocean pollution. By backing groups focused on practical impact, we make sure your purchase supports real change.
All of our umbrellas and reusable bags are made using post-consumer recycled plastic bottle waste. This means we upcycle plastic that might otherwise end up in landfill or the sea, converting it into high-performance, water-resistant canopy fabrics.
Our umbrella handles are also made from wood, reducing reliance on forever-plastics and using renewable resources where possible.
One of the biggest problems with umbrellas is their short lifespan: cheap umbrellas break easily and are discarded quickly, resulting in most umbrellas available on the UK market being deemed as 'single use'. That’s wasteful for both people and the planet. By embedding a designed-to-last ethos, our mission is to cut down on umbrella waste, for good.
From recyclable boxes to fully plastic-free materials right down to our parcel tape - everything you receive is designed to be reused or recycled after unboxing. Less packaging waste means more focus on the product and less impact on the environment. It's also the proper good stuff that gives you that 'oooh' feeling when it arrives 😉.
Rarely, a small number of our products can get cosmetic damage during production or shipping. These products are commonly referred to as 'deadstock'. Most deadstock in the UK ends up in landfill or incinerated, often for tiny cosmetic imperfections. That just didn't make sense to us. So, we commit to making sure our perfectly imperfect stock reaches the hands of people who can make use of the products - including people experiencing homelessness in our home city Manchester.
We’re committed to ensuring that when your SOAKED umbrella reaches the end of its life, it doesn’t just become another landfill statistic. Through our partnership with R-Coat, old umbrellas are transformed into new materials and products with purpose. If you have one ready to return, contact us — we’ll guide you through the process.
We’re a small, independent brand, and sustainability is woven into the way we operate - from design choices to support for environmental organisations.
We promise to keep improving, keep learning, and keep backing real solutions to reduce our impact, whenever and wherever we feasibly can.
