Umbrellas, what's the big deal?

Umbrellas, what's the big deal?

We get it. As founders of SOAKED; a business focused on umbrellas, we're familiar with that glazed over eye look when we start excitedly talking about spokes and ribs. After all, it's just an umbrella, something we shove in our bag halfheartedly knowing there's a good chance it won't be coming home with us after a stormy day, or throw on the train floor after a downpour.

So, why should any of us care about umbrellas?

Let's start with the facts (stick with us, we see you glazing). Did you know that a shocking one billion umbrellas end up in landfill each year across the globe? That's a lot of brollies clogging up our earth, and a lot of wasted money from your pocket.

Around one and a half million umbrellas are sold in the UK every year. If we asked you to step outside on a rainy day to your nearest city or town, we'd be willing to bet you'd see at least a few of those very umbrellas unglamorously sticking out of the closest bin. We have learned to expect, and accept a buy, replace, repeat cycle with poorly made umbrellas. It's costing our planet, and it's costing you. That's why umbrellas are a really big deal.

By investing in high quality resilient materials and thoughtful design, we're setting out to break the cycle. With your help, we can say goodbye once and for all to disposable umbrellas not designed to weather the storm.
